You can order a hand-painted reproduction from a small atelier in Florence or from Dafen Village in Shenzhen. Both are real, both are painted by hand. The difference is price, scale and lead time — not the brush.

💬 Get a Quote on WhatsAppAre Dafen and Italian ateliers the same craft?
An Italian atelier has high labour costs, a small team, and a premium brand. Dafen has over 8,000 painters and an industrial-scale pipeline, which lowers the cost per canvas without changing the fact that a person paints it by hand.
How much cheaper is a Dafen reproduction than one from Italy?
A comparable hand-painted oil reproduction can cost several times more from a European atelier than from a Dafen source. We quote per size with no fixed list price, so you see the exact number before committing.
How fast can Dafen turn a reproduction compared with Italy?
Dafen's pipeline can turn a 90 by 120 cm canvas in about three to five weeks. Small Italian workshops may take longer because they handle fewer pieces at once.
Is a Dafen reproduction lower quality than an Italian one?
Both are hand-painted. Many Dafen painters specialise by artist — some paint only Van Gogh, others only Monet — so the surface quality is genuine. The real risk in either market is a seller passing a print off as hand-painted, which you verify with the fingernail test and progress photos.
So which should you choose — Dafen or Italy?
Choose Dafen if budget, scale or speed matter and you verify the process. Choose a local atelier if you want to visit in person and pay for the name. The painting on your wall will look the same either way if both are truly hand-painted.

Is Dafen cheaper than Italy for reproductions?
Usually yes — often a fraction of the price for a comparable hand-painted canvas, because of Dafen's scale and lower labour cost.
Is the quality lower?
Not because of where it is made. Both are hand-painted. Quality depends on the individual painter and whether the seller is honest about printing versus painting. Verify with progress photos.
Can I visit the studio?
You can visit Dafen in person. For a small Italian atelier, an in-person visit is part of what you pay for. Either way, a video of the painting in progress is the practical check.
How do I verify it is hand-painted?
Ask for a photo or video of the work in progress and run the fingernail test on delivery: a hand-painted surface has raised brushwork, a print is flat.
Do you ship from China worldwide?
Yes, by tracked courier (DHL or FedEx), rolled or crated, with shipping quoted separately and DAP terms for duties.
