Oil Painting Wholesale for Interior Designers: Sourcing from Dafen, Shenzhen

One artist, one canvas — the unit of production in Dafen Oil Painting Village.

If you design or stage spaces for a living, you already know the two problems with art sourcing: catalog art never quite matches the scheme, and original galleries blow the budget. Dafen Oil Painting Village — a few square kilometers in Longgang, Shenzhen, housing the world's largest concentration of working oil painters — exists precisely to solve both. This guide covers what a decade of working with designers has taught us about sourcing there.

Why Dafen Works for the Trade

What to Order: Three Supply Modes

ModeWhat it isBest for
StockFinished paintings from current inventory, shipped in daysStaging, model homes, immediate fill-ins
Custom to specPainted to your size, palette, subject and finishClient projects, brand-matched schemes
Recurring lineYour designs painted as a repeatable program with consistent QCBoutiques, hotel groups, furniture showrooms

How a Project Actually Runs

  1. Brief & quote. Mood board, sizes, quantities, deadline. We answer with an itemized quote and a realistic timeline — usually within 24 hours.
  2. Sample / trial order. One or two pieces first: verify quality, packing and delivery time before committing volume. 50% deposit, balance before shipment.
  3. Production. Each painting photographed at key stages; color matched against your references. We flag issues early instead of surprising you at delivery.
  4. Approval. Photo set of every finished piece for your sign-off before packing.
  5. Logistics. See below. Door-to-door DDP available so your client never sees customs paperwork.

Quality Control: What We Check

Every painting is inspected under daylight lamps before it's packed: color accuracy against your reference, canvas tension, paint coverage, edge wrap, and varnish evenness. Rejects get repainted — you never see them. For recurring lines we keep approval samples and a written spec so batch 12 matches batch 1.

Timeline rule of thumb: stock ships in 3–7 days; custom pieces 7–20 days depending on size and complexity; multi-unit projects are scheduled to your install date, working backwards. Tell us the deadline first — it changes what's realistic.

Working with Us Without Flying to China

Most of our designer partners have never visited Shenzhen. The tools that make distance irrelevant:

And if you're ever in Shenzhen, come see the village in person — see what it looks like here. Visitors are welcome by appointment.

FAQ

Do you offer trade discounts?

Our pricing is already source pricing; volume discounts apply on recurring lines and project quantities. Ask with your brief — the quote is itemized so margins are transparent.

Can you paint from my design or render?

Yes — that's the core of custom-to-spec work. We can also develop variations on a theme for multi-unit projects so each unit feels unique but the program stays cohesive.

What about copyright?

We paint your designs, our original compositions, and public-domain classics. We don't reproduce living artists' copyrighted works — that protects your project too.
