What you are looking at
Ice in the River is built out of cold light and long shadow. The low sun does the work: long shadow, pale sky, and a ground that carries every colour reflected into it.
Ice in the River. Our painter follows the same logic rather than copying a photograph of it: the snow is painted as coloured shadow, so the drifts read cold without turning white.
Why this one has to be painted by hand
Snow is coloured shadow, not white. Print it and you get paper-white drifts and a dead sky; paint it and you get blue in the shade and warmth where the light glances off.
Every canvas is painted to order, so the quote follows your size, frame and destination rather than a fixed list. Tell us what you need on WhatsApp and we reply with an exact figure, usually within the hour. You deal directly with the studio that paints it — no reseller layer.

💬 Get a Quote for Ice in the RiverWhere a Ice in the River hangs best
This one reads well above a fireplace in winter. Because the painter works freehand on a blank canvas we keep the proportions of the original rather than cropping to fit, so an unusually wide or tall composition stays honest at any size.
Questions people ask before ordering
What size should I order for Ice in the River?
Any size you like, because the painter works freehand on a blank canvas. Most collectors choose something between 24 x 20 in and 40 x 30 in for this composition. If your wall needs something else, say so and we quote it.
Is Ice in the River in the public domain?
Ernest Lawson died in 1939, which puts this work in the public domain — commissioning a hand-painted reproduction is legal, and owning one is legal anywhere in the world. We never pass ours off as the original and never issue certificates of authenticity.
How long does a hand-painted version take?
Roughly two to four weeks of studio time depending mostly on size and how much impasto the surface carries, then several more days for the oil to set before we can photograph and pack it. We send photographs of your actual painting for approval before anything ships.
How close will it be to the original?
It is painted by hand from the same image you are looking at, so it is a painting of the painting, not a scan. Expect the composition, colour and drawing to follow the original closely, and expect the brushwork to be our painter's own — that is the point of commissioning one. You approve photographs before it ships.
