A printed face is grey in the shadows, and grey is why printed portraits look dead. Skin in shadow is warm, cool, greenish by turns — a painter mixes it, a press cannot.

In practice it works best along a stairwell, following the eye upward. Because each canvas is built from scratch, we follow the original's proportions instead of trimming the image to a standard shape. Panoramic and vertical formats are both fine.

Is it legal to own a reproduction?
Yes. The painting is in the public domain, so reproducing it is legal and owning one is legal anywhere in the world. We never pass ours off as the original.
How do I clean and care for it?
Dust lightly with a dry, soft brush and keep it out of direct sun. Nothing else is needed for decades; oil paint is slow to change and easy to live with.
