Where to start looking
Portrait der Louise d'Orléans holds one person under steady attention. Jean-François Portaels is not flattering the sitter so much as registering them — the face is modelled with small, honest decisions rather than ideal features.
Portrait der Louise d'Orléans. Our painter follows the same logic rather than copying a photograph of it: the shadow side of the face is mixed from colour rather than grey, which is where most copies go dead.

Why paint it by hand
The test of a portrait reproduction is the shadow side of the face. Print it and you get one flat grey; paint it and you get six colours that only read as shadow when you step back.
Every canvas is painted to order, so the quote follows your size, frame and destination rather than a fixed list. Tell us what you need on WhatsApp and we reply with an exact figure, usually within the hour. You are buying from the workshop, not a catalogue.
Choosing a size
The canvas is cut to your wall. For reference, these are the dimensions clients request most:
| Size (inches) | Size (cm) | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| 32 × 24 in | 81 × 61 cm | Living room, above a sideboard |
| 30 × 24 in | 76 × 61 cm | Dining room, bedroom feature wall |
| 24 × 20 in | 60 × 50 cm | Study, home office, above a desk |
| 20 × 16 in | 50 × 40 cm | Bedroom, hallway, above a console |
| 16 × 12 in | 40 × 30 cm | A shelf, a small wall, a gallery group |
These are the usual requests, not a limit. Anything in between, or bigger, is just a matter of asking. Frames and delivery are priced once you have chosen them. Any duties or import taxes are payable by the buyer (DAP).

💬 Get a Quote for Portrait of Louise d'Orléans, Queen of BelgiumWhere this one sits best
It sits naturally in a study, where it reads as a companion rather than decoration. The painter works freehand on a blank canvas, so we keep the proportions of the original rather than cropping to fit — an unusually wide or tall composition stays honest at any size.
The practical questions
How long does a hand-painted version take?
Roughly two to four weeks of studio time, depending mostly on size and how much impasto the surface carries, then several more days for the oil to set before we photograph, pack and send.
What about duties and import taxes?
Those are the buyer's responsibility (DAP). The amounts are set by your customs authority, not by us.
How do I know what size will look right?
Measure the wall and send a photograph. We will say honestly if the canvas you have in mind is too small for the space, which is the most common mistake.
