John Constable — Hand-Painted Oil Reproductions

Constable was the first serious painter to treat cloud formations as the subject. He made hundreds of outdoor oil sketches of sky alone, timing himself and noting the wind direction on the back. That habit is why his canvases move and his contemporaries' do not.

John Constable paintings we have in stock

Every canvas below is painted by hand in oil on real artist canvas by our studio painters in Dafen Village, Shenzhen. Pick a size, pick a frame, and we send photographs of the finished painting for your approval before anything ships.

Why John Constable is hard to reproduce properly

The sky is doing most of the work, and in a copy that is usually where it fails — clouds get painted as soft shapes rather than weather moving. The other trap is his whites: he put touches of broken white into foliage to suggest light on leaves, which reads as spotted noise if overdone.

How our painters work

We paint Constable's greens dirty and varied rather than green, and keep the highlights small, dry and separate so they flicker at distance rather than sitting on the surface. Skies are done in one session per painting so they keep one weather system.

Every canvas is made to order, so nothing sits in a warehouse. A 70% deposit starts the work and the balance is due after you have approved photographs of your finished painting. We never sell these as originals and never issue certificates of authenticity for them — they are honest reproductions, painted by hand.

We benchmark every canvas against the published list price of the big Dafen export studios and stay $20 below it at every single size — the same painters, the same 400gsm linen and the same hand-painted process, without the platform margin. Estimates only: the final quote depends on your exact size, frame and shipping destination. Framing and shipping are quoted separately. Duties and import taxes are the buyer's responsibility (DAP).

💬 Ask About a John Constable Reproduction
Honest labelling: all reference images on this page are public-domain scans of the original works, shown so you can judge the composition. John Constable died in 1837 and the paintings are in the public domain, which makes hand-painted reproductions legal to commission and own worldwide. Every canvas we sell is painted by hand in our own studio; we never present it as an original and never issue fake certificates.

FAQ

Are these real oil paintings?

Yes — genuine oil paint on artist canvas, applied by hand by one of our studio painters. Nothing is printed, traced or transferred from a scan.

Can I request a John Constable painting that is not listed here?

Yes. If the work is in the public domain we can paint it. Send us a reference image and we will tell you how it will translate to your size.

What sizes can I order?

Any size. The painter works freehand from a reference, so we can also adjust the crop to suit the proportions of your wall.

How do I approve it?

We photograph the finished painting on the bench before packing. You approve, then pay the 30% balance and we ship.

How long does it take?

Most canvases take 2–4 weeks depending on size and how busy the studio is. Layered oil needs proper drying time and we do not shortcut it.
