This is a painting about a surface. The Pond gives you the place without putting anyone in it, and the reflection is not a mirror but a slower, warmer version of the same world.
The Pond. In our studio the thing that matters is how Paul Cézanne actually works: Cézanne builds volume from small parallel planes of colour rather than from shading, so the form is constructed, not modelled.
Why this one has to be painted by hand
The reflection is the whole picture and printing kills it: ink blends on the paper and stays blended. A hand-painted canvas keeps each mark separate and physical, so the water reads as water at two metres and as paint at thirty centimetres.

What size should I order for The Pond?
Any size you like, because the painter works freehand on a blank canvas. Most collectors choose something between 24 x 20 in and 40 x 30 in for this composition. If your wall needs something else, say so and we quote it.
Is The Pond in the public domain?
Paul Cézanne died in 1906, which puts this work in the public domain — commissioning a hand-painted reproduction is legal, and owning one is legal anywhere in the world. We never pass ours off as the original and never issue certificates of authenticity.
How long does a hand-painted version take?
Roughly two to four weeks of studio time depending mostly on size and how much impasto the surface carries, then several more days for the oil to set before we can photograph and pack it. We send photographs of your actual painting for approval before anything ships.
How close will it be to the original?
It is painted by hand from the same image you are looking at, so it is a painting of the painting, not a scan. Expect the composition, colour and drawing to follow the original closely, and expect the brushwork to be our painter's own — that is the point of commissioning one. You approve photographs before it ships.
