Sunflowers. In our studio the thing that matters is how Vincent van Gogh actually works: Van Gogh lays the paint in directional strokes that follow the form, so the brushmarks are the drawing — nothing here is blended smooth.
Why this one has to be painted by hand
Flower prints lose the transparency — the petals go opaque and the bouquet turns into wallpaper. By hand the thin petals are glazed so light passes through them, which is the only way to get that edge-lit look.

What size should I order for Sunflowers?
Flower pieces are often taken at 20 x 16 in or 24 x 20 in — they read as objects rather than as views. If your wall needs something else, say so and we quote it.
Is Sunflowers in the public domain?
Vincent van Gogh died in 1890, which puts this work in the public domain — commissioning a hand-painted reproduction is legal, and owning one is legal anywhere in the world. We never pass ours off as the original and never issue certificates of authenticity.
How long does a hand-painted version take?
Roughly two to four weeks of studio time depending mostly on size and how much impasto the surface carries, then several more days for the oil to set before we can photograph and pack it. We send photographs of your actual painting for approval before anything ships.
How close will it be to the original?
It is painted by hand from the same image you are looking at, so it is a painting of the painting, not a scan. Expect the composition, colour and drawing to follow the original closely, and expect the brushwork to be our painter's own — that is the point of commissioning one. You approve photographs before it ships.
