Yes — we ship hand-painted oil paintings from our studio in Dafen, Shenzhen to Dubai, Abu Dhabi and every emirate. Air freight to Dubai runs 2–4 business days, sea freight to Jebel Ali 14–18 days. Budget 5% GCC customs duty plus 5% VAT on the landed value, and ask us for DDP if you want that prepaid instead.
Air 2–4 days · Sea 14–18 days · DAP or DDP · Invoiced in USD or AED
Two numbers matter and neither is the freight. The GCC applies a 5% duty to hand-executed paintings under HS heading 9701, and the UAE then charges 5% VAT on the duty-inclusive value — roughly 10% in total. Here is the whole picture, including the parts most suppliers leave out.
| Customs duty | 5% — HS 9701, GCC common external tariff, on landed value |
|---|---|
| VAT | 5% on the duty-inclusive value |
| Combined import tax | Approximately 10% of declared value |
| Air freight | 2–4 business days to Dubai (DXB) |
| Sea freight | 14–18 days to Jebel Ali |
| Express courier | 2–3 days, suitable for single small canvases |
| Trade terms | DAP by default · DDP on request (we prepay duty and VAT) |
| Invoicing | USD or AED, with commercial invoice, packing list and HS code stated |
| Who decides the final figure | Your broker and Dubai Customs — we estimate, they assess |
Duty and tax figures above are published tariff references, not a quote. Classification of a hand-painted reproduction can differ from that of an original, so treat the number as a planning estimate and confirm with your broker before you commit to a budget. If you would rather not deal with it at all, ask for DDP and we prepay.
Dubai's hotels, branded residences and hospitality fit-outs consume artwork by the floor, not by the piece. That is a different problem from buying one painting, and it is the one Dafen is actually built to solve.
A hotel order is not 200 paintings, it is one specification repeated 200 times. We agree the size, surface, palette and frame in writing, approve a physical sample, then hold every painter in the chain to that sample. That is what keeps room 402 looking like room 803.
Art consultancies in the Gulf do genuine work and charge for it. If you already have the design direction and simply need it executed in oil on canvas at scale, going to the production source removes a layer of margin without removing the craft.
Lobby and villa walls in the region tend to be tall and uninterrupted, which is exactly where a 60 cm canvas looks lost. We build large-format stretchers in-house and brace them properly, because a two-metre canvas shipped halfway across Asia has to arrive flat.
Neither of these is a reason to avoid the region. Both are reasons to work with someone who has shipped there before.
It is not the 45°C afternoon; it is the movement between that and a hard-chilled interior, repeated daily, which expands and contracts both canvas and timber. We use kiln-dried stretcher bars, keep extreme impasto in check on very large works, and leave frame joints a little room to move. Let a canvas sit indoors for a day before it goes on the wall.
Decorative abstract, landscape and floral work clears routinely. Work touching religion or politics can be held at the border. If the piece is for a public space, a government building or a hotel with a regional owner, tell us the theme up front and we will steer the composition somewhere safe rather than repainting after a seizure.
Six steps, and you see a photograph of your actual painting before anything is boxed.
Sizes, quantities, subject direction, frame, deadline. A mood board or a designer's palette is enough to start; a photograph of the wall helps more.
One figure covering painting, framing, packing and freight, with the duty estimate shown separately so you can see exactly what DDP would save you.
One canvas painted to the agreed specification and photographed for approval. Nothing goes into production until you say the sample is right.
Painted, dried, varnished and framed, inspected against the approved sample. Long enough drying time that the surface is genuinely ready to ship, not merely touch-dry.
Every canvas photographed individually before packing, then corner-protected, wrapped and crated for air or sea.
Tracked to Dubai or Jebel Ali with commercial invoice, packing list and HS classification supplied. Under DDP, duty and VAT are settled before it reaches you.
Yes. We ship hand-painted oil paintings from our studio in Dafen, Shenzhen to Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and the other emirates, by air or sea, with full tracking. Send the sizes and quantities you need on WhatsApp and we will quote freight, duty estimate and lead time together.
Air freight to Dubai runs 2 to 4 business days once the painting is packed; sea freight to Jebel Ali takes about 14 to 18 days. Express courier is 2 to 3 days for smaller parcels. Painting and drying time come before that, and we tell you the real production date rather than quoting freight alone.
Hand-executed paintings are classified under HS heading 9701 and the GCC common external tariff applies 5% customs duty on the landed value. UAE VAT is 5%, charged on the duty-inclusive value, so the combined import tax is roughly 10%. Your broker or Dubai Customs makes the final classification, and we recommend confirming before you budget.
Yes, and this is the work we are set up for. Hotel programmes need one agreed specification - size, surface, palette, frame - repeated across dozens or hundreds of canvases. We approve a sample first, then produce against it, photograph each piece before packing, and ship in consolidated batches so a floor or a wing arrives complete.
Contemporary decorative and abstract work normally clears without issue. Subject matter touching religion or politics can be held, so tell us the theme before we start if the piece is destined for a public or government-adjacent space, and we will advise on what is safe to paint.
The risk is not heat itself but the swing between a hot, humid outdoors and a heavily air-conditioned interior, which moves canvas and timber. We use kiln-dried stretcher bars, keep heavy impasto in check on very large pieces, and leave the frame joints room to move. Give a canvas a day to acclimatise indoors before hanging it.
We invoice in USD or AED. Shipments are DAP by default, meaning duty and import tax are paid by you on arrival, and DDP is available on request - we prepay duties and taxes so nothing is owed at the door. Most UAE project buyers prefer DDP because it keeps the landed cost predictable.
Villa and hotel lobby walls in the Gulf are typically tall and generous, so large single canvases and gold or silver leaf frames are the usual brief. Tell us the wall dimensions and ceiling height and we will recommend sizes that actually fill the space rather than float on it.
Singapore is a different proposition entirely — no customs duty at all, 9% GST, and much smaller walls. See shipping to Singapore for that breakdown, or how our supply network works if you are sourcing at scale.
0% duty, 9% GST, 2–4 days by air. Sizes that suit apartments rather than lobbies.
Our own studio plus a vetted network across Dafen, for OEM, white-label and project volumes.
Hotel, hospitality and interior-design programmes, quoted by specification.
Send sizes, quantities and a photograph of the space if you have one. We reply with a specification, a landed-cost estimate including UAE duty and VAT, and an honest production date.
